About Steve

Steve Casares is a Citizen of Scottsdale, Arizona, having moved with his family to the area in October 1998. Steve is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 2009, representing our Congressional district. He was a member of the first graduating class at Notre Dame Preparatory, Scottsdale, Class of 2005.

Steve was commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer and assigned to Fort Campbell, KY with the 2-506th Infantry Regiment “Band of Brothers”. During that time he deployed to East Paktika, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom X-XI, where he and our Nation’s Soldiers were directly under fire on the border of Afghanistan-Pakistan. Steve and our Nation’s Soldiers held firm during the Battle of Combat Outpost Margah, with no American nor Afghan casualties incurred.

 Steve then was selected to serve in the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) at Arlington National Cemetery, VA. He served as the 1st Battalion, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment intelligence officer and then Executive Officer of the Presidential Salute Battery and Caisson Platoon. Steve and our Nation’s Soldiers laid to rest 85 Veterans within Arlington National Cemetery during his proscribed positions.

 Steve next served at the historic Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN. Steve’s final assignment in active duty was in the Pentagon, Army Foreign Intelligence Directorate. Steve left active duty to be employed by Booz Allen Hamilton as an economic intelligence analyst.

Steve recently completed educating at the United States Military Academy at West Point, as an Assistant Professor of Leadership and Ethics to our Nation’s Cadets. He initially served as a civilian and loved educating so much, he sought to be reactivated into active duty to continue to teach the Cadets of West Point.

Steve returned to Scottsdale, his home, our home, in July of 2023.

Steve’s military education includes the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Foreign Disclosure Officer Course, Brigade S2 Course, and the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course. Steve holds an M.A. in International Commerce and Policy (Economics) from George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government, Arlington, Virginia. Although not currently assigned to a unit, Steve remains a Major in the United States Army Reserves.

Steve is most proud to have led your Soldiers and your Cadets. He is proud to have earned the Bronze Star, Combat Action Badge, Honor Guard Tab, and 101st Airborne Division deployment patch, and the title of (former) Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

It was a beautiful day that day. we buried a chaplain in a place known as Chaplain's Hill in Section 2- located near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Steve is the son of a graduate of West Point Class of 1981; Marquette Army ROTC Class of 1983; and stepfather, Universities of Colorado and Oregon, Stanford MBA; all residents of Scottsdale. Steve has one brother / sibling, West Point Class of 2012, Notre Dame Preparatory Class of 2008; and one sister-in-law, of Germany. He adores his only nephew and is looking forward to the arrival of his second niece or nephew in August.
